The official Cookienovo WordPress plugin: a cookie bar in a few clicks
Until now WordPress users had two options for a cookie bar: edit the theme by hand, or use a universal plugin for inserting scripts into the header. Both work, but both can go wrong — the wrong script order, a missing Consent Mode, or an accidentally overwritten header.php.
That is why we built the official Cookienovo plugin for WordPress. You download it, upload it, paste your site code and you are done. No theme edits, no wrestling with script order.
What the plugin handles for you
The cookie bar has to start at the right moment on the page — before Google tags, the Meta Pixel or any other measurement scripts fire. If that goes wrong, data leaves for Google without consent and Consent Mode v2 does not work as it should.
Our plugin handles this automatically:
- It inserts the Cookienovo script directly into the
<head>with the highest priority. - It sets up Google Consent Mode v2 with safe default values (everything denied) until the visitor decides.
- It takes care of the correct order — the Consent Mode default runs before your Google tags.
Installation in a few clicks
- Download the plugin from the WordPress guide page (the "Download WordPress plugin" button).
- In the WordPress admin go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and select the downloaded
.zip. - Click Install and then Activate.
- Open Settings → Cookienovo.
- Paste your site code (you will find it in Cookienovo → Sites → your site) and save.
The cookie bar appears to visitors immediately. You do not have to touch a single line of your theme code.
The site code, not an API key
Into the plugin you only paste your site code — a public identifier that determines which cookie bar and which configuration should load. It is not a password or a secret key, so nothing happens if someone sees it in the page source. Google Analytics uses the same principle with its measurement ID.
When to use the manual method
If for some reason you do not want to install the plugin (for example you have a strict policy on the number of plugins), you can still insert the Cookienovo script into the theme header manually or via a universal "Insert Headers and Footers" type plugin.
